Jedan od najutjecajnijih redatelja 20. stoljeća, Seijun Suzuki, umro je 13. veljače nakon borbe s kroničnom opstruktivnom plućnom bolešću.
Suzukijevi neobični noir filmovi uvelike su inspirirali neke od najslavnijih redatelja današnjice (Jarmusch, Tarantino, Kitano, Kar-wai Wong).



Suzukijevi filmovi su poznati po nepredvidljivim narativima, odsustvu logike, ispoliranom stilu i cool neo-noir atmosferi. Njegov osebujan način snimanja doveo je do toga da je 1968. otpušten iz studija Nikkatsu nakon što je njegov bizarni magnum opus Branded to Kill (1967) zbunio/razljutio direktora Nikkatsua.
