Preacher continued the proud tradition as the flagship Vertigo comic. It too was catalogued and sold in bookstores and hailed by the media. One thing it achieved that Sandman didn't is a cohesive story told by the same creative team from start to finish. Sandman used many artists, Preacher only needed one. I still contend that Steve Dillon has the best storytelling ability in the biz. Garth Ennis somehow achieves being highbrow and lowbrow at the same time. His scripts are very Tarantino with some of the best satire I have ever read. I am heartbroken, but all stories must end. And I want this one to end Garth and Steve's way.

Issue one starts with Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip sitting in the Five Aces Diner. They are discussing where Jesse is going to look for God. He decides to start with Texas. Tulip says she's heard of two places where you can start looking for God, the church, or the bottom of a bottle. Jesse disagrees with the church option. This statement already shows where Jesse stands on the matter of the church. He knows that there is no longer a god to be found in religious institutions from personal experience.
In the diner the story is told how the three arrived together. The story has to do with Genesis, Angels, and how Jesse came to be a Preacher in the first place. The flashback begins:
Cut to Annville, on a Saturday night and Jesse was having a little crisis of faith. Jesse knows where the Church is and they serve Jack Daniel's. The situation of having a congregation that don't believe in shit but ask for forgiveness anyways and then go on sinning breaks Jesse. He takes it out on the patrons of the bar. He reveals all that they ever confessed, that's true redemption.
Of course they don't take too kindly to it so they kick the shit out of him. Good Christians...yeah. Jesse figures that it was around that time that Genesis was escaping.
Cue Heaven. There they are, all the fluffy clouds and such, with want element changed. Genesis has escaped and the Adephi angels are scared. Enter the Seraphi Angels, (the gaurds of heaven, the warriors.) It so happens that during Genesis escape, the entity decapitated one of the Seraphi. Ooops. So the Adephi get a warning from the Seraphi angel that they better get Genesis back before he causes any trouble down on Earth. It seems the Seraphi were left in charge by the big guy (God).
It turns out that Genesis is after a soul. Genesis had started to develope a morality and so yearns to bond with a human soul. He must be stopped, and there is only one person around who can stop him, The Saint of Killers.
We are taken back to the diner where Cassidy cuts in to tell how he and Tulip were to meet up at around the same time as the escape of Genesis. The scene starts with Tulip standing at a corner waiting to blow some guys head off. She makes a cute assassin, don't she? She misses her hit (while blowing another guys chin off) and makes a run for it. Cassidy just happens to be driving around and so Tulip sticks a gun in his face and tells him to get out of the fuckin' truck. How does Cassidy respond? "Shan't." Heh...I like this guy already. A little gun play ensues and convinces Cassidy to help Tulip out. So they drive off into the sunset together.
The Adephi angel turns up at The Saint of killers resting place and sets him free. The Saint blows the Adephi's brains out (not all of his brains really because he still tells the Saint his mission.) The Adephi tells the Saint to find Genesis, and if he has joined with a human, kill him.
Jesse continues with his story. The next morning after the bar, everyone in Annville shows up to church. They want to see the Reverend Custer losing his marbles. Such dedicated followers they were. As Jesse commences his sermon, Exodus flies into the church like a comet and directly into Jesse. The church explodes, people are melting everywhere and all that's left alive is Jesse (with Genesis inside him).
Tulip happens to be near by and sees the cloud of smoke. So, with Cassisdy in the back with a tarp pulled over him, she drives to the scene and finds Jesse.
Sheriff Root makes an appearance on the scene a little while later (the trio have already departed) and blames the whole mess on "martian niggers" (this Root is a real asshole). Eventually the police catch up to the trio and Jesse discovers that he has a new power. The Word of God is now in him. He tells the cops to drop their guns and let them go and they do. Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy take off.
That's when the Saint of Killers walks on the scene just as the cops are starting to pick up their guns again, God, does he look like he's in a killing mood.

Velecasni Jesse Custer
Jesse Custer was the preacher of the small town in Texas. While he was talking to the people in his church, he was possessed by an entity named Genesis. As Genesis got into Jesse's body the whole curch exploded and everyone inside died, except Jesse. Jesse now has the abbility to make people do excatly what he wants. A short time after that, Jesse was found by his ex-girlfriend Tulip and a strange man called Cassidy. Together they start their journey in order to find God.
Cassidy
Cassidy is a whiskey drinking irish vampire. He and Tulip found Jesse Custer half dead in an exploded church. Cassidy and Jesse became friends and so he decided to help Jesse with his search. This irish bloodsucker is really weird and really not like any vampire you know.
Tulip
She is Jesse Custers girlfriend. At first she was really mad at Jesse, becacuse she thought that he abandoned her some years before (but Jesse had been kidnapped by his lovely grandma). She joins him on his search for god.
The Saint Of Killers
The angels send him to find Jesse Custer and Genesis. Now he is on his way to do the job like he´s told. Don´t stand in his way, because if you do such a stupid thing it will be the last thing you´ll ever do.

This issue starts with a breif description of last issues events only, this time around it's from Sherriff Roots perspective (and a pretty dim one at that.). Root makes the whole scene seem out of this world, and he's quite right to do so. The Saint of Killers draws his gun with lightening speed and starts takin' out the whole lot of 'em. The scene carries on for a few pages with the Saint walking slowly through the cops and blowing off their arms, noses, necks....whatever gets in the way. This buy is good. Sherriff Root escapes when a helicopter arrives threatening the Saint. All we see of that is a ball of fire in the air from the car that Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy are escaping in. Sure enough, out of the fire walks The Saint of Killers towards Jesse, and he don't look too happy.
The whole story sounds like a crapper to Agent Dinnings of the F.B.I., and Dinnings lets Sherriff Root know it. Root responds with a timely "Fuck You." And Root leaves Dinnings and Hugo Root's cheif to talk. We get a little background into Root's son who shot his own face off tryin' to kill himself. He did it because of the death of Kurt Cobain.
The scene flies over to Jesse and Tulip talking about their reunion and "The Word of God" that Jesse possesses. In the mean time Cassidy is in the back again under the tarp. Jesse reveals that Genesis inside him is now becoming one with him. He feels like Genesis is trying to talk to him.
Cassidy pops his head around the window (it's apparently dark enough now for Cassidy to be safe) and makes a crack that pisses Jesse off mildly, so he uses "The Word" on Cassidy. He tells him to stand on his head. Cassidy says "This is dead funny, so it is. Don't do it again." Jesse replies "You got it". Sounds like the beginning of a friendship.
A little while later, Jesse meets up with his imaginary friend (who, oddly enough knows things that Jesse couldn't possibly know). The imaginary friend is in the guise of John Wayne, and John Wayne warns Jesse about The Saint of Killers. He tells Jesse that this is the meanest son of bitch your path may ever cross, so watch him.
Next, we go to Heaven where the angels are worried as shit about the Saint who seems to be killing everybody else but Jesse. But that's not all they're worried about, they are also worried about The Grail finding out about this.
This issue ends with a bar brawl over nothing, a brawl that Jesse prefers to fight with his fists rather than use "The Word". But it does have meaning in the end where we see Cassidy eating the flesh off the neck of some bugger. It seems Cassidy has a certain weekness for jugular.

Stvari oko filma Preacher su se dobro zakuhale. Redateljica je Rachel Talahay, producent dobro nam poznat Kevin Smith, a glavni glumac, hm, znate onaj tip koji glumi Cyclopsa u X-Menu, a zove se James Marsden.

Inace Americki fanovi su jako nezadovoljni izborom postave za cijeli film, dok im jedinu nadu daje Marsden koji je i sam veliki obozavatelj stripa i naravno vec provjereni Kevin Smith. U nekim anketama najvise glasova je dobio Johnny Depp. Ustvari fanovi su se od samog pocetka protivili da se radi filmska verzija ovog stripa, jer su smatrali da bi im to pokvarilo onu sliku kakvu su oni stekli o stripu, zato su na forumima raspravljali o tome tko bi trebao biti u filmu, a tko ne da bi na taj nacin dobili film kakav oni zele tj. ne zele. Pisali su price, odabirali postavu, redatelje, pa su cak i radili postere-evo jednog zanimljivog- covjek si je stvarno dao truda pa ne izgleda mi uopce lose:
No sve to nama nista ne znaci kad se mi u to ne mozemo uvjeriti sami,a siguran sam da bi se pridruzili Americkom misljenju, pa bar cemo moci vidjeti filmsku adaptaciju, koja ce za nas laike na tom stripu vjerojatno biti dobra, a za Amere, ah nek bude rima "kobna".

This issue starts with two angels in a conference room discussing the departure of God. Deblanc, one of the wingless Adephi describes how God didn't really leave the winged Seraphi in charge. He believes that the whole system would crumble if it weren't for the Adephi. Obviously these two groups of angels don't like each other much. Deblanc fears the Grail. If they were to find out about Genesis, they would bring about the Armageddon. After preserving the bloodline for two thousand years, they would be itching to set it off. Deblanc just despises Heaven and the whole bloody system.
While this debate continues, back on Earth Jesse and Tulip have just realized that their traveling companion, Cassidy, is a vampire. Jesse doesn't take too nicely to this information and tells Cassidy to bugger off. And so Cassidy leaves.
The Saint of Killers is at it again. Two cops walk out of a bar and who do they see listening to their radio. The Saint. Then the cops make a fatal error, they tell him to stop. Oh well. One gets a bullet in the heart, the other cop is offered life if he doesn't draw, but hen a few pages later, we see him lying on the ground with only half his head left. I assume he drew his gun, after all, the Saint of killers is a man of honor.
We are now taken to the aftermath of Cassidy's (along with Jesse and Tulip's) little scuffle. The F.B.I. is now having to deal with the fact that everything Hugo told them was true, with the added part of a vampire. They now have Jesse Custer I.D.ed as the Reverend Custer, minister of the church in Annville. The call comes in of the events occuring with the Saint and so they go, calling Hugo Root first. Meeker is starting to believe Hugo may not be totally out of his mind.
This takes us over to Hugo Root and Arseface. Hugo doesn't even look at his son as his son mumbles through his blown off mouth. Arse face is talking about how cool it would be to go with his dad on a mission, but is interupted by the call from the F.B.I. Arseface sneeks into the back seat of the car to go with his dad on this mission.
Now we go to Tulip and Jesse who are in a motel, doing a little catching up (not in that way...yet). This room they broke into is just in view of the crime scene. Jesse doesn't feel like talking too much, so he brings up the gun in Tulip's bag, and so she doesn't feel like talkiing either. They have so many secrets. He won't tell her why he became a minister and so he won't find out why she has a gun. Simple. Cassidy starts regretting that he called Cassidy an abomination, but Tulip doesn't much care for Cassidy, and she isn't too happy about Custer either, but there it is clear she has feelings for. Hurt feelings. Poor Tulip.
Cassidy catches up with The Saint of Killers. They have a few words for each other that ends up with the Saint pumping a bullet into Cassidy. These characters are great.
Jesse hits his head on the Motel sink and starts seeing things like fire in the mirror. The memories of Genesis are starting to seep out. Genesis is a part of him, and the hit on the head started a flow of imagery that tells the story of an angel and a demon going at it (if you know what I mean). From this union, Genesis was born. A mix of Heaven and Hell, a new idea, a being that may be more powerful then God. And it is inside Jesse. Jesse storms out of the motel with Tulip hoping to find the Saint. Jesse figures that if anyone knows what this is all about, it would be him. As he steps out of the motel, Hugo Root is there pointing a gun into Jesse's neck.

The first story arc comes to an exhilerating end with this issue. With a flashback to start the issue, John Wayne's involvement is exposed. The first time John Wayne spoke to Jesse was when he was five years old, after the death of his father. It happens while Jesse is watching "McClintock". Instead of belting a guy, Wayne turns towards Jesse and tells him that they are going to be "pardners". With his hand coming out from the T.V., they shake to their alliance.
Flash forward to the future where Jesse is now under the Gun of Root. He tells Jesse that if he tries the Word on him he'll shoot. Tulip comes up from behind with her gun and tells Root to drop it. Root turns the gun on her and tells Jesse that the offer still stands, one word and Tulip drops.
Cassidy is now in his pick-up, bullets apparently don't stop this boy. He's on the trail of the Saint, and he plans to ram the pick-up straight up The Saints arse.
Back to Jesse, Tulip, and Root, the standoff comes to an end as Sheeriff Root gives her three seconds to drop it. She lowers the gun on three, but not because of Root. The Saint is back, and he's ready to shed some more blood. Root puts Jesse to the ground for later and takes on The Saint. He figures he owes The Saint for a dozen deputies. The Saint corrects him to fourteen deputies. I guess he keeps count. Root changes his mind to take on The Saint just as Cassidy crashes onto the scene with the pick-up. He crashes into the Saint. The truck stops, The Saint doesn't budge an inch, and Cassidy flies through the window and lands beside Jesse on the ground.
I guess The Saint figures that he has time for everyone so he keeps his sites on Root and says "So. About them pistols." This is when Arseface makes his entrance (he was hiding in the back of Roots car). He runs towards the scene screamin' "DUH KUH MUH DUHH! (don't kill my dad)". The whole scene stops at the site of the deformed boy running towards them, and apparently Jesse has had enough because he uses the Word saying "ENOUGH!". Jesse tells the Saint to holster the guns and he does. The Saint walks up to Jesse pissed off as hell and tells Jesse that he's going to kill him (but not today).
Custer uses The Word to make make The Saint get who ever sent him, and so The Saint calls Deblanc down. He arrives in the shape of a divine angel, but Jesse see's through the shit and tells Deblanc to cut it. Jesse tells Deblanc to tell him what the big secret is. Deblanc can't resist the Word and so he tell's him. God quit. He told the angels that he had to go on a journey to Earth. Deblanc tells Custer about Genesis, and how this new entity is as powerful as God. Deblanc asks Jesse to allow the angels to separate Genesis from him, but Jesse has other ideas. He's going to find God and make him tell his people what he's done. Deblanc tells him he can't, so Jesse tells him to get lost. With the story exposed and Deblanc gone, The Saint makes his departure. There's nothing more for him to do without the use of his gun.
Root says that he's going to leave too, but Jesse says "No. We're leavin'. You're gonna go fuck yourself." Ouchhh... The scene flashes forward a little to a medic telling Arseface about how his father is going to be okay, only it's too late to re-attach his severed penis which was stuck in his colon. Root calls his son into the ambulance and tells him to give him his gun. Since these are the first words Root has said to his son in a long time, he does exactly as his father tells him, hoping to please him. As Arseface tells him that everything's going to change, everything's going to be all right, Root blows his own head off. Arseface runs out of the ambulance screaming, and heads off into the darkness.
The scene goes back to heaven where the Seraphi angels are passing judgement on Deblanc and the fat partner. They throw them into some black hole to who know's where. As this happens, Arseface screams vengeance for his fathers death because of Jesse and says from this day forth he will be known as Arseface (officially).

usputbudireceno,mislim da cika goran skrobonja muva sad nesto sa grafickim novelama:)i izmedju ostalog ima i svih devet trejdpeprbekova Preachera.mislim da je cena originalna,odnosno kavrprajs,sto ce reci(za srbende:)oko 1 300 dindzi.
