Mađarice su vatrene žene, to je uvriježeno mišljenje, a i točno je. Vrlo su radišne i ne zanovjetaju previše.

Hi! Sorry for writing in English, but - apart froma few words and sentences - I do not speak Serbo-Croatian. I asked my wife to translate this forum-topic, and I'd reply to some posts: If someone considers visiting Hungarocomix, I would rather recomend the Comics Festival in spring. Hungarocomix is rather a fair, than a festival - it is more focused on selling comics. The festival in spring has many events. Besides these there are two boerses (I'm not sure about the correct English word for it), where anyone can take out their old comics and sell them. These are very friendly, fan-oriented events. Here are some photos taken from Hungarocomix2008: http://www.kepregeny.net/?p=3503&page=3 (I hope they can be seen without registration to the site)
Last: I'm happy that fans in Croatia or Ex-Yugoslavian countries showed some interest towards a Hungarian comics event (or just because of the Erotica festival? :) ). I made some efforts in the past years to show Hungarian comics fans other comics-cultures in the region, as Romania, Serbia, etc. Unfortunately language is a great barrier, but I hope in the future we'll get to know more of each other's comics. (Sorry for the sentimentalism... :) ) In the past few years two Serbian comics were published in Hungarian: a Zograf collection and Smudja's Vincent and Van Gogh. |

There are some retailers, who sell English language comics, and in some years Aliance Francaise brought out a nice variety of French comics, but the majority is in Hungarian.
I can understand your problem. Usually, when I go to Novi Sad, I always try to visit Stripoteka klub or check out Serbian comics variety in the IPS bookstore. There's nothing I understand, but seeing those nice comics puts things in balance. :)
To tell you the truth, I wouldn't visit the Comics Festival in Budapest, if you already have something similar in your own country. But if you happen to be near it at the time, than it must be educational to check out, how comics are doing in a neighbouring country. |

Tommorow will be the second Szeged Comics Festival. (Szeged is about 20 km-s from the Serbian border.) Its a bit smaller festival than the one in Budapest, but last year's debut gained many compliments nationwide for its atmosphere and more focused program. This year István Fujkin will be one of the guests. He started his comics-carrier in Yugoslavia in the mid eighties (ie. "Rock" magazine), moved to Hungary in the early nineties, than to Canada. (This years main guest is the eighty year old Livia Rusz, who made beautiful illustrations and comics mainly for children).

Yes, language barriers are tough. In both directions. ;)
Some posted comments on how bad hungarians' taste for comics are. If you take a look at what kind of albums get printed each year, besides superhero and teen-manga stuff, you will find many nice francophone albums, cult comics from english and american authors, small press hungarian stuff and classic hungarian reissues. Yes, Bonelli somehow did not grow roots here (there were some attempts with Dampyr), which I know is a great sin for many from your region, but besides that, I think there's no need to be ashamed for our variety. |
