Jerry Robinson (1922. - 2011.)



Napustio nas je još jedan velikan devete umjetnosti. Jerry Robinson je preminuo u 89. godini života.

Karijeru je započeo 1939. godine, kao tušer u studiju Boba Kanea. Kane ga je unajmio za rad na popularnom stripu koji su stvorili on i scenarist Bill Finger - Batman. Batman je postao veliki hit, te je Kane pokrenuo i novinski strip. Robinson je, uz nekoliko drugih kolega, preuzeo crtanje svešćica, dok se Kane posvetio novinskom stripu. Robinsona se najčešće spominje kao ko-kreatora likova kao što su Joker i Robin. Robinson 1947. godine prestaje crtati Batmana i zajedno sa Mortom Meskinom, svojim velikim prijateljem, radi na stripovima kao što su Vigilante i Johnny Quick. Tijekom 1940-ih godina radi na stripovima drugih izdavača i izdavačkih kuća kao što su Lev Gleason, Harvey i Nedor. Tijekom 1950-ih godina stvara mnogo kriminalističkih, ljubavnih, ratnih i western stripova za izdavačku kuću Atlas (današnji Marvel). Također, zajedno sa Sheldonom Starkom pokreće znanstvenofantastični novinski strip Jet Scott. Tijekom 1960-ih godina pokreće novinske stripove Still Life i True Classroom Flubs and Fluffs. Jedan od njegovih posljednih radova bio je strip Astra, jedinstveni naslov na kojem su surađivali američki i japanski autori, i koji je istodobno objavljen u SAD-u i Japanu.

Tijekom 1970-ih godina Robinson je zajedno sa Jerryjem Siegelom, Joeom Shusterom i Nealom Adamsom bio aktivan kao borac za prava stripovskih autora i priznanje njihovog rada. Također, proučavao je povijest stripa, te je spasio od zaborava veliki dio stripovske baštine. Svojedobno je objavio knjigu The Comics: An Illustrated History of Comic Strip Art 1895-2010, veliku povijest američkog novinskog stripa.

Za svoj rad je dobio mnoge nagrade i priznanja.

Njegove epizode Batmana kao ni ostale stripove nažalost nisam nikada čitao, nadam se da jednog što skorijeg dana hoću, ali kad vidim sve te divote.... Majstor je praktički doživio 90. godina, a sve je to vrijeme uživao u umjetnosti kojom se bavio. Što bi čovjek više mogao poželjeti. Neka mu je laka zemlja...
Ja necu imati s kim ostati mlad ako svi ostarite,
i ta ce mi mladost teško pasti...
