Kad sam krenuo sa popisom mislio sam da ću ga završiti za sat vremena a trebalo mi je nekoliko dana.
Razlog tome je zbrka koja postoji zbog više elemenata. Strip sa istim imenom Sandman postoji u nekoliko inačica a svaka od njih ima više izdanja, reizdanja, reprintova,extra,spin off, platinum, specijalnih i inih izdanja. Iz tog razloga svih prvih 75 epizoda ne ide uvijek po kronološkom redu unutar integrala.
Važno je reći da je ovo popis strip serijala The Sandman autora Neila Gaimana, a izdavač je DC Comics / Vertigo. Ova napomena mogla bi biti suvišna kada bi to bio jedini Sandman. No, kao što sam spomenuo, ovo nije jedini Sandman.
Od 1974. oo 1976. isti izdavač (DC Comics) izdao je jedan sasvim drugi strip serijal ali sa istim imenom. Izašlo je ukupno 6 brojeva.
Također postoji strip serijal koje se zove Sandman Mystery Theatre, a izlazio je od 1993 do 1999. Godine. Izdavač također DC/Vertigo.
Osim toga imamo i strip lik izdavača Marvel koji se također zove Sandman a pojavljuje se u mnogim epizodama Spidermana, Fantastične četvorke i drugih Marvelovih superjunaka.
The Sandman Neila Gaimana je u siječnju 1989. počeo izlaziti kao običan strip od svega 20 i nešto stranica i u takvom obliku dostigao je 75 brojeva do ožujka 1996. Priča The Sandman prati „život“ Sna (Dream/Morpheus) i njegove „obitelji“ koji se nazivaju Beskrajnici.
1991. krenula je prva „ integral“ edicija. Takvih skupnih idanja ukupno ima 10 (+ 2 posebna), a svako od tih izdanja doživjelo je reizdanje nekoliko puta, a neka reizdanja su nekoliko puta doživjela reprint.
Iako nije dio prvih 10, jedanaestim Sandmanom smatra se zbirka od 7 priča u kojima su opisani svi Gaimanovi beskrajnici ; Smrt, Strast, Sumanutost, San, Shrvanost, Smak i Sudbina, a svaku priču nacrtao je drugi (poznati) crtač.
Neil Gaiman i Yoshitaka Amano su 1999 napravili ilustriranu novelu The Sandman-The Dream Hunters, a po njoj je 2009. godine nastala serija stripova kao rezultat suradnje Neila Gaimana i P. Craiga Russella (ukupno 4 broja). Sve to zajedno upakirano službeno je dvanaesti dio (dvanaesti integral) The Sandmana.
The Sandman izlazio je u softcover i hardcover izdanjima. Prvo HC izdanje ima različite naslovnice od prvog softcover izdanja, a u kasnijim edicijama koriste se iste naslovnice za softcover i hardcover, tj. drugo i treće HC izdanje imaju iste naslovnice kao i drugo i treče SC izdanje.
Popis bi mogao biti i temeljitiji da sam dodao godinu izdanja za svaku ediciju softcovera i hardcovera, no smatram da nema smisla pošto večina edicija ima reprintove, a bit će ih i dalje, pa sam stavio samo godinu izdanja prve edicije, a sve ostalo ponavlja se u nedogled iz godine u godinu.
Sandman Midnight Theatre je još jedan „extra“ Sandman. To je spoj Sandman Mystery Theatre autora Matta Wagnera i The Sandmana autora Neila Gaimana.
Osim svega ovoga, postoje također i serija stripova „The Dreaming“ i „The Sandman Presents“ koji su povezani sa izvornim Sandmanom ,a na kojima je Neil Gaiman radio kao urednik i suradnik, ali ne i kao glavni autor i glavni pisac/scenarist. Tih stripova ima mnogo te oni ne ulaze u ovaj popis, iako se njihova radnja događa u „Sandmanovim svjetovima“.
Death: At Death's Door je strip o Smrti, sestri Sna (Morpheusa) no ovaj uradak također nije djelo Neila Gaimana.
Središnji lik San također se pojavljuje se također u švedskim stripovima Inferno.
Imamo također i albume sa umjetničkim crtežima, naslovnicama i sl. , A Gallery of Dreams, Endless gallery, Dust Covers: The Collected Sandman Covers, 1989-1997...
Zatim imamo The Sandman Companion u kojem se nalaze interviewi sa Neilom Gaimanom, crtačima i ostalim ljudima uključenim u The Sandman seriju, te trazličite analize o Sandmanu i sl.
The Quotable Sandman je knjiga najboljih citata iz serijal the Sandman koji su popračeni crtežima glavnog lika Morpheusa i ostalih beskrajnika.
Najnovije posebno izanje zove se The Annotated Sandman. U njemu se nalazi detaljno putovanje kroz svaki broj Sandmana od #1 do #20, komentari, povijesne i suvremene reference, skrivena značenja, detalji likova i sl. To je prvi od četiri takva izdanja koja nas očekuju sljedečih godina.
