Ne znam kakva prica moze da se razvije na 30 i kusur strana.

Nisam ni ja bas odusevljen s idejom kratkih prica. Ta prica me ujedno i najvise zanima (Manfredi).

MAURIZIO DOTTI: MY TEX!

Having dealt with the dark atmosphere of the forest and Dampyr Zagor, the designer debuted on the necklace of the Ranger. We have the opportunity to interview him.

On November 7, hits the newsstands "El Supremo", number 637 of Tex. The episode is the first part of a story that will unravel over a period of three books and a half, ending in February 2014. Offering guests a dusty adventure that part of Baja California and transport our heroes to the bay of San Francisco. The whole, showing the chine Maurizio Dotti, we met and interviewed for the occasion.

∙ • ● • ∙

And ... well , after a long militancy dampyriana and Zagor , you finally managed to make an adventure of Tex ! Although, in reality , it is not the first time that you get to grips with the Ranger Bonelli , having collaborated in the history of the West appeared sull'Almanacco 1998. We start from a distance : how did your career in comics and what are the steps that you have gone so far to the West of Tex ?

I was six years old and I drew , so compulsive , battlefields with tiny figures of cowboys and Indians , as industrious ants , moving frantically - or so it seemed to me - in the space of checkered sheet. I started too far back , I know, but it is only to make clear how the Western genre has always been part of my passions. The cinema , comics and later novels, have fueled my imagination fantastic and adventurous. Making of a great passion a profession has always been for me, through thick and thin and frequent , bitter despondency , the first vital purpose. After a not very brilliant debut in the world of visual arts, in first grade when I prayed in tears a companion that I designed it a cow that we should copy from the blackboard and , among countless efforts , I could not do (the first of those bitter discouragement ) , spiccai the great leap in the universe drawn.

So what? How did you go from bovine drawn to the classmate to the comic page ?

There were at first artistic studies , followed apprenticeship , as they used to (we , alas , back in '76 ) , in the study by Giancarlo Lieutenants , illustrator and cartoonist . After a short period of so-called apprenticeship , I conquered the honor and the burden of a story of my own, western , of course. The heads were : " The Fearless " and " The Kid " and between those pages with pride , I began my career as an eighteen year old cartoonist . I also made the thespian for a number of years: puppeteer , set and costume designer , but also an actor. Certainly less lonely as a business, but it was always telling stories and I liked and what I like to do : tell stories, the rest is the reason why I do this work. In '92 I leave the theater and his penis , and I try hard to get back into the world of design , first through the generous and glowing universe of advertising agencies (I was too rusty to start immediately with the comic ) , passing in '95 " The Newspaper " , with a western, but looks a bit ' ! It was the striped version of " The Magnificent Seven" , on the occasion of the centenary of cinema. My obsession however, has always been to arrive one day at Bonelli , I think I have tried it several times , maybe four times, the last in '96 . They were the pencils almanac Tex " Glorieta Pass " , inked by Alaric Gattia , which aroused the attention of Mauro Boselli, who wrote the script . I began the long-awaited collaboration with three stories of Zagor , then move on to Dampyr . In 2011 , thanks to the good care of Boselli, something for which I will always be grateful , I went to Tex . For me it was like living a new springtime of enthusiasm and creativity , hope shines through the pages .

It was difficult to get to graphically summarize "your" Tex ? How did you characterized and what were your role models ?

Tex was an icon of the imaginary national-popular , as could be simpler? Are many components involved , those who influence you in choosing the style . I've always liked the design of Ticci , but the term does not make it in a comprehensive way the real passion that I always had, from an early age , for his work . They are certainly not the only - the rest is natural, given the skill of the Sienese master - but remember my youth , endless afternoons design , dedicated to the real study of his wonderful paintings . It seems obvious , then, that for the face of Tex I is oriented towards the interpretation of Ticci . I tried to follow it and staccarmene at the same time , it is never nice to propose a perfect clone of your model, at least I think. It may seem strange, but the very fact that the appearance of the character is simple and fixed in classical notes and features, so instantly recognizable by regular reader , of itself renders more difficult the enterprise. However, in the flow of about four tables , the character suffers the inevitable , minimal changes , classifiable as ... period of adjustment !

Moving on from the bloody atmosphere of Dampyr adventurous dimension of Zagor and coming on the pages of Tex , what kind of adjustments had to suffer your sign? What are the main differences in your approach to work in three sets so different?

The stories of Dampyr were , no doubt, a long and fruitful apprenticeship. The horror -noir atmospheres are not at all easy to make , and represented a constant challenge for me and this is very useful for the technical maturation . The results will be the readers to judge them, but the certainty that conquers through the years they give you a lot more security when you go through your daily work. These twelve years of living with the vampire hunter have formed me from the point of view of technical and expressive . Switch western environment - solar , dusty , with wide open spaces - renewed old , pleasant feelings , sure , I have the tendency of blacks to load the plates, but this is now part of a mechanism tuned. The habit to the characters and environments , you acquire the very slowly , or at least for me it is. I realize that it works like a slow transfer , a gradual identification with the character , in attitudes, postures that make the characters recognizable .

For the book " El Supremo " you had to use a lot of documentation ? What were your main sources: films, photographs , paintings , cartoons ...

The documentation is essential, and the sources are all those lists , plus the one that gives me Boselli . I , then , I have an almost obsessive attitude to search for images of the environment , costume , accessories and human types , or what it represents , in large part , the atmosphere of the story. The Internet provides almost everything you are looking for . Today it is quite simple retrieval of documentation material , but I remember the days when books were in fornirmelo . As a young boy I developed a passion for research and, albeit with far less capital , I tried to buy all the books that seemed to be useful at the time or in the future more or less near future. Very often , over time, I got to enjoy this my old propensity .

In absolute terms, however, which are the authors who have most influenced your taste?

Jean Giraud and John Ticci: these were the authors, without any doubt, that the more I looted, studied, parsed ... In short, I tried to respirarmeli such as air, as if they were vital. Ticci was at hand, but Giraud, in the early '70s, I had to go to find and have passed the bottom of my meager savings of teenager in comic books which had been closed for some time, in Via Canonica, in Milan ... was called "The speech bubbles." But I can not overlook the great charm that had on me as a designer Gino D'Antonio and his magnetic "History of the West."

Over the years, we seem to glimpse, in your path within our publishing house, a sort of leitmotif represented by the collaboration with Mauro Boselli. How is it working with Mauro? Looking at the books I've accomplished together, seems to stand out is a certain harmony ...

The realization of his aspirations in life is always the result of happy and fortuitous mix of talent and staff meetings. The one with Mauro Boselli was for me a real human encounter lucky to work with him and allowed me to learn a lot. We soon found to have a variety of interests in common, and this common to hear the things of the life and work has made it simple and profitable collaboration. Mauro knows what he wants, and in the employment relationship, this is very important in addition to this, it has a very logical and pragmatic approach, it is very difficult to dull it with him. In very rare cases in which it happened to me, I was rewarded with a terse "you've convinced me."
