THE BACKSTORY: "She was a great girl. An exciting girl, very enthusiastic," Bob Dylan said of the heiress, fashion model and Andy Warhol superstar. Although he never confirmed it, Sedgwick is widely believed to have been "Miss Lonely" in Dylan's first Top 10 hit, which reached No. 2.
UPDATE: Like Miss Lonely, Sedgwick suffered a terrible fall. She died in 1971, of a drug overdose, at the age of 28.
Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose - Too Late To Turn Back Now (1972) HQ
This is the 45th anniversary of the week this song went to #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 in the USA! Many may remember this family soul singing group for the iconic dance single "Treat Her Like A Lady" which went to #3 in 1971. But I will NEVER forget this song that reached #2 on Billboard on July 15, 1972 and peaked at #1 on Cash Box on July 29, 1972, "Too Late to Turn Back Now." I find, much to my surprise, that it had been released previously in 1970, but failed to chart. Maybe it was slightly ahead of its time, because it matches the mood of the year it became a big hit so perfectly. It remains one of my all time favorite love ballads by any soul or R&B group since the early 1960s. "Too Late to Turn Back Now" is ranked as the 34th biggest U.S. hit of 1972, but it will always be in my top 10 for that year ... and one of the tops of the entire 70's decade. Some of us are stuck in certain years that we relive again and again in our memories ... 1972 is one of mine, and this song was a part of the theme music of my life at that time.
