Berlin - The Metro (1983) HQ
MUNROWS RETRO
Originally released as a single in 1981, it failed to chart and appeared remixed on the 1982 LP, Pleasure Victim. It was the third single from the album, released in April 1983. It was a major hit on MTV, and one of the most memorable videos of the period. The entire album was a favorite of mine and got a lot of play where I worked.
So why do another video of an already popular video? Normally I would not attempt a video of a song that was made so very legendary on MTV.
The problem is I have this wonderful footage of dancer, actress, and model Raphaella McNamara leaving her flat, walking to the metro station, waiting for the train, boarding and riding it. It seems almost meant to be in a video about the song "The Metro." Otherwise I would not have bothered.
Wikipedia: "The Metro" is a song written by John Crawford for his band, Berlin. It has been covered by a number of artists, including System of a Down, Alkaline Trio, John Frusciante, Hannah Fury and Idle Warship ... The Berlin recording is known for epitomizing the new wave genre as a blending of punk rock and pop, with heavy use of the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 synthesizer. Terri Nunn said the song, which was a breakthrough hit for Berlin, "defined us and defined that period of music."
The Metro reached #58 on Billboard and #50 on Cash Box on July 16, 1983. |
