Hi, I am trying to find information on the earliest publications containing Usagi Yojimbo stories published in Croatia sometime during the mid-90's.
I am interested in any Usagi Yojimbo stories published before Book Globe published their hardcover editions.
I am seeking information such as:
1) title of publication 2) date of publication 3) volume and issue numbers if applicable 4) Usagi Yojimbo story titles contained in publication - Croatian title and, if possible, original english title 5) number of pages for each story 6) story credits - name of translator, editor, or others working on Croatian translation)
Thank you for any and all assistance, Steve Hubbell www.usagiyojimbo.com

Thanks for the quick reply, Zagor12, I really appreciate it.
I followed the link you provided and, unfortunately, all the covers shown are for the Book Globe editions published since 2001.
I am trying to find information on the material mentioned in this part of the Stripovi article on Usagi Yojimbo:
Thanks again for your help. Steve |

I don't know about particular releases (I've seen them but i don't know nothing about them)
Here is how they look:
There was some Usagi Yojimbo released also in short lived Bookglobe's "Garfield Zabavnik" Magazine (besides Garfield and Bone) in 2004

Those two must be what I am looking for. Thank you for the information about the Garfield magazines as well.
Would these early Usagi Yojimbo / Zec Samuraj publications and Garfield Zabavnik magazines be available for purchase at the comics convention in Zagreb this November? |

2 issues of Usagi were published in 1994. (I guess) by Bookglobe.
In issue #1 the first story has no title but it's "The goblin of Adachighara" in English. 2nd one is named "Usamljeni zec i djete" in Croatian ("Lone rabbit and child").
Issue #2 has the cover of Fantagraphics' issue #37 but it doesn't contain the same stories as the american one. Tere are 3 stories inside: "Lovac na ucjene" ("Bounty hunter"), "Konjokradica" ("Horse thief") and "Selo straha" ("Village of fear").
Editor and translator was the owner of the publishing house Bookglobe, Nebojiša Radić.
There are 7 books with hard covers published also by Bookglobe. They're exact copies of Fantagraphics' TP editions so everything matches execpt for the covers of books 2 and 3. Editors are Nebojiša Radić and Bernard Radovčič.
#1 (2001) - translated by Ozren Švarc #2 (2001) - translated by Ozren Švarc #3 (04/2003) - translated by Martin Babić #4 (06/2004) - translated by Martin Babić #5 (06/2005) - translated by Vuk Radić #6 (06/2005) - translated by Vuk Radić #7 (10/2006) - translated by Ivana Lieli
And as BiDi already mentioned there were few stories of Usagi in "Garfield zabavnik" magazine:
#1 (06/2004)
No title in Croatian ("The goblin of Adachighara") - 8 pgs. "Usamljeni zec i djete" ("Lone rabbit and child") - 20 pgs.
#2 (07/2004)
"Priznanje" ("The confession") - 15 pgs.
#3 (08/2004)
"Lovac na glave" ("Bounty hunter") - 10 pgs. "Kradljivac konja" ("Horse thief") - 10 pgs.
#4 (09/2004)
Selo straha ("Village of fear") - 8 pgs. No title in Croatian ("A quiet meal") - 10 pgs.
#5/6 (10/2004)
"Slijepo prase s mačem" ("Blind swords-pig!") - 10 pgs. "Povrtak kući" ("Homecoming!") - 10 pgs. |

I will try contacting them. Any other stores you might be able to suggest would be appreciated.
By the way, Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai will be one of the guests at the comics convention in Zagreb this November. |

That is such a nice offer! Especially for such cool comics as well! Unfortunately I live in the USA and will not be attending the comic convention in Zagreb this November myself. If you would be interested in selling the comics by mail, I could reimburse you for the comics and postage through Paypal, if you have access to it. Or, if you are attending the comic convention yourself, you could extend the offer to Stan Sakai. I am sure he would also enjoy adding them to his own collection.

I will not attend the convention either (never did) because during that period i have other unavoidalble obligations:( Let's see if i will be able to locate the comics first, (which is a feat in itself believe me) and than we'll see how to send them to you. Of course at no charge at all for you - you'll get them as a gift.

red = strange that the title for the story Horse Thief was translated differantly in the two differant publications. :)
green = is the version of Homecoming in the Garfield magazine just part one of the story? (It was originally published in two parts in the Fantagraphics comic book titled "Critters")
I guess I am assuming that the Zec Samuraj (1994) and Garfield zabavnik are both black and white publications. Please correct me if I am wrong. |

As far as the Garfield zabavnik is concerned, you can try and ask the folks at Stripovi na Kvadrat comic shop (www.stripovi.hr), they carry everything by Bookglobe, they might have it or be able to get it... |

Actually, Garfield zabavnik #5/6 has 98 pages and other four 66.
Story from issue #5/6 is the match to the one from Critters #10 ("Homecoming", part one). |

Thanks for the page count corrections and confirmation on Homecoming part 1.
I originally based the page count for the magazines on what was listed for issue 1 and 5/6 on the Stripovi pages linked here.
I must not have checked #4 which is listed as 60 pages. I just assumed that the first four issues had 90 pages like #1, and that #5/6 (listed as 120 pages) was larger because it was a double issue. |

Who publicated this Usagi from middle of 90's? Also Bookglobe? That look interesting, are some texts in the that edition? |
