Nakon višemjesečnih zdravstvenih komplikacija umro je autor Gene Colan, u 84. godini života.

Colan je legenda američkog stripa, čija je karijera bila duga 70 godina. Rođen je 1926. godine u četvrti Bronx, u New Yorku. Stripove je počeo crtati 1944. godine, tijekom studija crtanja. Na njega su utjecali autori poput Syda Shoresa i Miltona Caniffa. Colan je imao vrlo specifičan stil, koji mu je omogućavao da u svojim stripovima stvori specifičnu, mračnu atmosferu, pogotovo kada su u pitanju horror i noir stripovi. Colan se volio poigravati svjetlom, sjenama i krupnim kadrovima.

Iza sebe je ostavio golem opus. Dugo vremena je crtao upečatljive priče o Batmanu u različitim publikacijama za DC. Za Marvel je dugo godina radio na serijalima kao što su Iron Man, Daredevil, Captain America i Doctor Strange. Njegovo možda najznačajnije djelo bio je strip Tomb of Dracula, na kojem je crtao svih 70 brojeva. Na serijalu je započeo plodonosnu dugogodišnju suradnju sa scenaristom Marvom Wolfmanom, s kojim je u raznim publikacijama stvarao stripove o Draculi. S njim je surađivao i na serijalu Night Force. Wolfman i Colan su tijekom rada na serijalu Tomb of Dracula stvorili lik Bladea, lovca na vampire. Vrlo plodna suradnja je bila i između Colana i scenarista Dona McGregora, s kojim je surađivao na noir stripovima Nathaniel Dusk, Detectives Inc., te naslovu Ragamuffins. Zajedno sa legendarnim Stanom Leejem Colan je stvorio lik Falcona, jednoga od prvih tamnoputih američkih superheroja. Također, Colan je nacrtao najveći dio satiričkog serijala Howard the Duck. Jedan od Colanovih posljednjih angažmana bio je 2009. godine, kada je ilustrirao jednu priču za serijal Captain America. Za ovu priču, kao i za mnoge druge svoje radove, dobio je brojne nagrade i priznanja struke.

Svijet stripa postao je mnogo siromašniji odlaskom legendarnog Genea Colana.

Gene Colan je bio dosta zastupljen u ex-yu strip izdanjima:

Daredevil - Lale, politikin zabavnik, Eks
Drakula (i drugi horor stripovi - Blade, Hodiah Tvist, Lilit...) - Eks, Horor
Batman (Batgirl i sl) - Eks
Night Force - Horor
Hulk - Marvel Strip
(+ bar jedna epizoda Konana)

Čitao sam ga dosta u hororima ali kad sam vidija essential Daredevila iznenadija sam se da je još i bolji nego li sam mislija.
