This is Mr. Mohammad Gulab. If any of you have seen the movie "Lone Survivor" you may know who he is.
Back in 2005, the navy seals conducted Operation Red Wings. The operation was to scout out Ahmad Shah, a high priority terrorist. After being spotted by some taliban while conducting recon, they were faced with a tough choice. Either kill the locals, so they wouldn't turn back and tell the Taliban they were there, or let them free and run the risk of them telling the Taliban of their location. Having human compassion and decency, they choose the 2nd option, and let the villagers free.
Soon after the Taliban headed up the mountain, and a firefight ensued. Over the firefight, 3 of the 4 Navy SEALS died. 1 sacraficing himself to call for headquaters since their COMS were down. Luttrel was the only survivor.
This is where Mohammad Gulab comes into play. Luttrell had three vertebrae cracked, sharpnel in both of his legs, bullet wounds, and was dehydrated. He walked roughly 7 miles in this state, where he finally ran into more villagers. They kept him in the village for 3 days, even though the Taliban commanded them to give him up. A fellow villager took a note and a map to a US Naval post to alert them of the situation and where Luttrell was being kept, alive. The entire time Mohmmad Gulab aided Luttrell back to health. He kept him hidden and refused to give him up. He fed him, gave him clothing that they had, and gave him any help he needed to ensure he survived until US forces got there to extract Luttrell.
Now Mohammad Gulab is seeking Asylum in the US. His cousin was murdered, his house blown up, and he can't stay in 1 spot due to him being in hidding. He moves his family every single night. Recently the US have moved him to a neutral undisclosed location.
Help a true hero. Someone who risked their life and their families lives to protect one of our own, when he could have left him to die.
So please fellow Imgurians, if you would take a few seconds to sign the petition at Whitehouse.gov to save this mans life, like he did for a US Navy Seal. Lets give this man what he deserves...a safe place for him and his family.
