Kopirano s reddita - na engleskom.

I was very bored and came up with a half-serious categorization of the main types of comic fan. What do you think? Do these archetypes ring true? Do you fit into one of them?

1. Superhero geeks

Self-explanatory, really. These people see the word "comic" as pretty much synonymous with superheroes. In most cases, their entire collections are from Marvel and DC, though they might have a few books from Valliant, Dark Horse, Image, Dynamite or Boom. They tend to follow characters rather than creators, and they get excited about events and crossovers, even if they often complain about them. They either have an encyclopædic knowledge of continuity, or they aspire to. They probably think "graphic novel" is a synonym for trade paperback and use "indie" to mean anything not from Marvel or DC. They usually only read comics from the US, but occasionally they read some popular shōnen, like Dragon Ball, Pokémon or My Hero Academia.

2. Not-quite-superhero geeks

These people predominantly read comics from genres like science fiction, horror and fantasy, almost exclusively from Image and Vertigo. Their favourite creators include the likes of Alan Moore, Brian K. Vaughan, Jeff Lemire, Robert Kirkman, Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis. Most of them also read superhero comics to some extent. Many of them used to be superhero fans and now love to preach about how much better "creator-owned" or "indie" comics are. A significant minority completely reject superheroes as totally lame and immature. Like superhero fans, they mostly only read comics from the US, but they may dabble in shōnen, and they might also read the odd European comic, particularly Blacksad and the Jodoverse comics. Also like superhero fans, they probably use "graphic novel" as a synonym for trade paperback.

3. Comic connoisseurs

These guys look for comics that are intellectual, thought-provoking, experimental, deep or otherwise of "literary" quality. Their favourite publishers are Fantagraphics and Drawn & Quarterly, but their collections usually include a wider ranger of publishers than either of the groups described above. They care more about quality and originality than particular genres, but they tend to prefer realistic dramas, slice-of-life comics, historical works, arty surrealist stuff, memoirs and biographies. They revere the likes of Chris Ware, Charles Burns, Dan Clowes, Art Spiegelman and Mœbius. If they read anything from Marvel or DC, it's most likely highly acclaimed limited series by the likes of Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Tom King and Jeph Loeb, and odd titles from DC's Vertigo imprint. A significant minority completely reject superheroes. In contrast to the two groups described above, their collections are diverse in terms of nationality. Most of them are comfortable saying they read "comics", but some prefer "graphic novel" or "GN", and a particularly pretentious minority might talk about “the ninth art”.

4. Indie purists

This group is all about “genuinely independent” comics: small presses, self-published, webcomics and 'zines. The closest they get to the mainstream is Fantagraphics. They love surrealism and meandering slice-of-life comics. Their pantheon of greats is similar to that of the comic connoisseurs (Ware, Burns, Clowes, Spiegelman), but also includes the “underground comix” legends like Robert Crumb and Peter Bagge. However, their main focus is on finding obscure gems, so their collections are full of comics by people you’ve never head of. Somewhat better-known favourites include Simon Hanselmann, Michael Deforge, Dash Shaw and Connor Willumsen.

5. The youth of today

Members of this group like their comics to be colourful, zany and fun, but also to have emotional depth and explore social issues. Their collections invariably include a lot of children's comics (which they refer to as "YA"). Their favourite creators include Tillie Walden, Gene Luen Yang, the Tamaki sisters, Noelle Stevenson, John Allison and Jeff Smith. Their collections come from diverse publishers, prominently including First Second and general book publishers. They often go out of their way to read comics by female, gay or non-white creators, but they overwhelmingly focus on works from the US. A significant part of this group insist that they read "graphic novels" (or "GNs") and that "comics" are flimsy things held together with staples, containing stories about superheroes. If they read any superhero comics, it's most likely ones featuring Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel, Gwenpool or Harley Quinn. Their tastes might overlap somewhat with groups 2 (particularly over creators like Brian K. Vaughan and Marjorie Liu) and 3 (particularly over creators like Craig Thompson, Adrian Tomine, Tillie Walden and the Hernández brothers).

6. Manga geeks

While people from the other groups might dabble in comics from Japan, manga geeks read Japanese comics to the exclusion of everything else. Indeed, they might think of “comics” and “manga” as completely different entities, only superficially similar, with the former an uninteresting Western phenomenon obsessed with superheroes. Although Japan produces an incredibly diverse range of comics, manga geeks are usually only interested in shōnen, seinen, shōjo and josei (i.e. mainstream comics targeted at teenagers and young adults); other types of Japanese comic are more likely to be read by comic connoisseurs. If they dabble in Western comics, it’s probably Japanese-influenced ones like the Scott Pilgrim and Usagi Yojimbo series.

And like that... he's gone.

Pripadam skupini ljubitelja stripa.

Ostalo stvarno mogu reci prozdirem. I gustam.

Ponos i entuzijazam.

Junaci i kronologija nisu relevantni.

Kolekcionar svega i svačega. Police i hrbat najvažniji.
Kolekcionar komplet Bonelli.

Fali, pored svega goreg navedenog, skupina/grupa/sekta/organizacija/savez... kako god, kolekcionara kojima nije samo bitno imati svaki primjerak, vec svaki primjerak u savrsenom stanju.
