U svojoj 73. godini života napustio nas je autor Keiji Nakazawa. Nakazawa je rođen 1939. godine u Hiroshimi, i nije imao nimalo lako djetinjstvo. Odrastao je u vrijeme Drugog svjetskog rata, uz nestašice hrane i potrepština, kao i ostale radnje vezane uz ratno stanje. Ono što je možda najvažnije, preživio je kada je na njegov rodni grad bačena atomska bomba. Od bombe i njezinih posljedica umrla je gotovo cijela njegova obitelj. Tada je imao šest godina.

Nakon rata će odlučiti postati autor stripova, te će svoje iskustvo vezano uz rat, bombu i preživljavanje pretočiti u svoja djela. Iako je riječ o stripašu bogatog opusa, Nakazawu se uglavnom ističe kao autora poluautobiografskog stripa Hadashi no Gen (Bosonogi Gen), koji detaljno opisuje događaje neposredno prije, za vrijeme, i nakon eksplozije atomske bombe. Kao svjedok užasa rata, Nakazawa je veliki dio svog života proveo kao mirovni aktivist, prosvjedujući protiv rata i nuklearnog naoružanja.
