Turkish intelligence chief: ISIS is a reality and we are optimistic about the future
http://www.awdnews.com/top-news/10040-turkish-intelligence-chief-isis-is-a-reality-and-we-are-optimistic-about-the-future.html
Ankara- Hakan Fidan, the head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization, known by the MİT acronym, has drawn a lot of attention and criticism lately for his controversial comments about ISIS.
“ISIS is a reality and we have to accept that we cannot eradicate a well-organized and popular establishment such as the Islamic State; therefore I urge my western colleagues to revise their mindset about Islamic political currents and not be cynical at all,” said Mr. Hakan Fidan during a press conference in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Fidan added that in order to deal with the vast number of foreign Jihadists craving to travel to Syria, it is imperative that ISIS must set up a consulate or at least a political office in Istanbul. He further underlined that it is Turkey’s firm belief to provide medical care for all injured people who fled Syria regardless of their political or religious affiliation.

Iraq Crisis: US Warns Buyers and Middlemen Involved in Isis Oil Trade
http://www.gulf-times.com/Region/216/details/413521/IS-push-on-Kobane-stalls%2c-but-Iraq-fightback-months-off?
The US has warned Turkish and Kurdish middlemen involved in the lucrative Isis oil trade as the US is determined to choke the extremists' sources of funding.
A senior Treasury official also threatened to impose sanctions on those dealing with the Sunni extremists.
Isis is believed to be making $1m per day mainly from selling oil at heavily discounted prices.
"Last month, ISIL [Isis] was selling oil at substantially discounted prices to a variety of middlemen, including some from Turkey. It also appears that some of the oil emanating from territory where ISIL operates has been sold to Kurds in Iraq, and then resold into Turkey," US Treasury's Undersecretary David Cohen said while speaking at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Despite the Washington-led coalition's airstrikes on key Isis-controlled oil fields and refineries, the group is estimated to produce about 20,000 barrels of crude oil a day, according to the International Energy Agency.
The facilities were producing nearly three times the quantity before the airstrikes began.
The Treasury official added: "With the important exception of some state-sponsored terrorist organisations, ISIL is probably the best-funded terrorist organisation we have confronted."
"Airstrikes on ISIL oil refineries are threatening ISIL's supply networks and depriving it of fuel to sell or use itself. Our partners in the region, including Turkey and the Kurdistan Regional Government, are committed to preventing ISIL-derived oil from crossing their borders."
Meanwhile, the EU ambassador to Iraq, Jana Hybaskova, has said the Sunni insurgent organisation is not attempting to establish an Islamic State but only an "oil empire".
Speaking to the Czech daily Noviny, the diplomat said: "Isis seeks to control the oil wells in Syria, northern Iraq and possibly in Saudi Arabia, too... the main problem now is whether Isis plans for an invasion of parts of Saudi Arabia, especially that many people are likely to sympathise with extremist ideas inside the Kingdom."

SAS named heroes of Kobane in fight against IS
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/406952/SAS-are-the-heroes-of-Kobane-after-protecting-town-from-Islamic-State
A team of British special forces were dispatched to the Turkish- Syrian border to help brave Kurdish fighters battle against Islamic State (IS) gunmen.
The British troops called in several air strikes, killing dozens of IS fighters and halting their advance towards Kobane, just inside the Syrian border.
In one attack, SAS guided warplanes into an area where IS fighters were massing for an attack The US jets dropped several 500lb bombs into the area, killing and injuring dozens of fighters.
In another strike the SAS pinpointed the location of a large convoy of tanks, armoured personnel carriers and ammo trucks heading towards the area. An SAS team hiding in the surrounding hills directed two US combat planes into the area.
The pilots then swooped on the convoy, destroying the vehicles with missiles and bombs. One source last night said: “The SAS deployed to the area around Kobane a couple of weeks ago and have done themselves proud.
“The US pilots think they are absolutely great. They have manoeuvred themselves into some great positions so they can call in air strikes against IS militants.
“They have done this at no small risk to themselves. If their positions had been identified by IS they would have been lucky to escape with their lives. “The conditions for the British soldiers have been very testing."
“It’s been extremely hot, they were living on meagre rations and had to be sparing with water.
“But their role in the battle for Kobane probably saved hundreds of lives.” The SAS have mainly been active in Iraq over the last two months but some members of the elite unit were sent into Syria when Kobane looked as though it might fall into IS hands.
Sources added that US Delta Force troops and the SAS were able to cut off flanking assaults by IS militants trying to encircle the town.
“Every time the jihadis tried a move, the guys would zap them. It was brilliant,” a US source added. Last week footage emerged of a devastating Western air strike on IS thugs who had planted their flag on a hilltop overlooking Kobane.
The SAS have been involved in the military action against IS for the past two months. The troops have been based mainly in Iraq where they have co-ordinated air strikes and have helped to train local militia forces.
Around 200 Kurdish fighters trained by the SAS will join the battle for Kobane in the next few days.
The British troops have taught the Kurds how to use heavy machine-guns and direct mortar and artillery fire on to enemy positions.
