Sting: Grenzgänger und Freigeist | Doku | ARTE
Sting does not fit into any category: Behind the world-famous rock star there is a misunderstood intellectual, an ostracized artist and - above all - a free and sensitive man who expresses his innermost thoughts and deepest convictions in his music. Review of his artistic career.
"Englishman in New York", "Roxanne", "Every Breath You Take", "Desert Rose", "Walking on the Moon" or "Fragile": some of the most successful hits of the last decades come from Sting. As the front man of The Police, Sting worked his way up to an international star from 1977 to 1984. A solo career followed, during which he already celebrated multiple platinum success with his debut album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" (1985). Thanks to his talent and fame, the musician, author and composer soon became a pop icon. In the course of his 40-year career, he has sold over 100 million records, received 16 Grammys and one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As the band leader and bass player for The Police, he went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Sting has a unique voice that seems to transport you into a world of its own. In his music, jazz meets pop and pop meets classical. Sting does not only express his freedom through music and sheet music. It shows up primarily in his lyrics. Sting, who has been involved in social and environmental politics for decades, does not ignore difficult topics. In "Inshallah", for example, he addresses the journey of refugees through Europe. In " Musicians and producers such as Bob Geldof, will.i.am, Vinnie Colaiuta, Zucchero, Dominic Miller, Branford Marsalis, Pascal Negre, Martin Kierszenbaum and Rufus Miller also have their say in the portrait. The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (1968)
The Moody Blues are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1964, initially consisting of keyboardist Mike Pinder, multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, guitarist Denny Laine, drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The group came to prominence playing rhythm and blues music. They made some changes in musicians but settled on a line-up of Pinder, Thomas, Edge, guitarist Justin Hayward, and bassist John Lodge, who stayed together for most of the band's "classic era" into the early 1970s. |

Happy Birthday! 80!
She marched to Washington with Martin Luther King and performed in Woodstock: Joan Baezhas always remained true to her ideals and has always been a strong voice for civil rights, democracy and pacifism. What do you associate with the singer and songwriter? |
