“Il mostro della laguna” is the 42nd issue of the Italian comics character Zagor1. Zagor is a legendary Italian comics series that has been popular in southern Europe for decades1. The first issue of Zagor was published on June 15, 1961, by the Italian publishing company Sergio Bonelli Editore1. The main characters of the comics are the musclebound American Zagor, whose nickname is short for a Native American name “Za-Gor Te-Nay” (“The Spirit with the Hatchet”), and his inseparable Mexican sidekick Chico1. The series was initially set in the first half of the 19th century in the imaginary region of Darkwood, somewhere between Pennsylvania and Michigan in today’s United States1. However, Zagor soon began disregarding the boundaries of genre, which contributed to the longevity of the series1. The comics series has been celebrated for its 60th anniversary by fans from Italy and a large portion of the Balkans, including Turkey1.
“Il mostro della laguna” episode is part of the Zagor comics series. It was published as issue number 42 on December 1, 19681. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find specific information about this episode. It might be a lesser-known episode or not widely documented.
Regarding Yugoslav, Serbian, and Croatian editions of this episode, I couldn’t find any specific information about them. However, it’s worth mentioning that Zagor comics were published in Yugoslavia by the Serbian publication Dnevnik in its Zlatna Serija edition starting from 19682. Zagor is one of the most popular comic heroes in Turkey since the 1960s.
