Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over (1986)

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over {HD}

joe blevins

"Don't Dream It's Over" is a song by the Australian rock band Crowded House, recorded for their 1986 self-titled debut studio album.
The song was written by band member Neil Finn, and released in October 1986 as the fourth single from the album.
The song, described by AllMusic as a "majestic ballad", became the band's biggest international hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100
in the United States in April 1987. "Don't Dream It's Over" was also a great success in Neil Finn's native country New Zealand where it peaked
at No. 1; it also topped the charts in Canada, while in Australia it peaked at No. 8. In Continental Europe, it reached No. 6 in Norway, No. 7 in
the Netherlands, and No. 13 in Germany. In America the single was topped only by "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" by Aretha Franklin
and George Michael.
In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) celebrated its 75th anniversary by naming the Best New Zealand and
Best Australian songs of all time, as decided by APRA members and an industry panel. "Don't Dream It's Over" was ranked second on the
New Zealand list and seventh on the Australian list.
Crowded House lead singer Neil Finn wrote this song. He explained in an interview with Goldmine: "I wrote that on my brother's piano. I'm not sure
if I remember what the context was, exactly, but it was just about on the one hand feeling kind of lost, and on the other hand sort of urging myself on:
Don't dream it's over. That one actually fell out literally, without me thinking about it too much."
This was Crowded House's biggest hit in the US. The group is from New Zealand, where they are very popular. Crowded House was their first album,
which did very well in the US. Subsequently released albums had success in the UK, but not in the states.
This was used in commercials for the New Zealand Tourism Commission.
In 1989 Paul Young performed a cover of this song at the Nelson Mandela Tribute Concert.
This song was used in the TV miniseries The Stand, which aired in March 1994. The miniseries was based on the Stephen King novel.
Sixpence None The Richer recorded this song for their album Divine Discontent. Their version has a similar arrangement, but with female vocals.
Veteran music video director Sophie Muller helmed a clip for this version, which has lead singer Leigh Nash discovering a baby goat and singing
the tune among paratroopers on a beach.
A romantic walk through the streets of Paris.
Inspired by this great song Marie played to me, we just went out to shoot this short movie in the beautiful, lively and romantic streets of Paris.
No story just a beginning and an end, showing beauty and lightness of everyday life in the streets...

Keith - 98.6 (1967)

Keith - 98.6 (1967) HQ

MUNROWS RETRO

Here's another favorite of mine from 1967 entitled "98.6" ... a lovely, lilting melody with a fast moving tempo.
The song's recording artist, born James Barry Keefer, took on the singular performing name of Keith. 98.6 became
a smash hit in the United States after its release in December 1966. The Tokens ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight") provided
the backing vocals to Keith's lead vocal on the single. Along with Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale," Keith's "98.6"
was among Beatle John Lennon's favorite songs in 1967. The song peaked at #7 on both Billboard and Cash Box
on February 11, 1967, reaching #24 in the UK. It was later covered in a two-song medley that included "Lazy Day" by
Lesley Gore in 1969, which reached #36 in the US.

This video stars the lovely professional model, dancer, actress, AND photographer, Raphaella McNamara.
