The group began as 'Fat City', a husband/wife duo of Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert. The band was also composed of Jon Carroll (keyboards and vocals) and Margot Chapman (vocals). Carroll and Chapman were also married after meeting as members of the group, but later divorced. Their son Ben Carroll is also a musician. The group's debut album was the self-titled Starland Vocal Band and included "Afternoon Delight". The song was a #1 hit and the album also charted. The group was nominated for five Grammy Awards and won two — Best arrangement (voices) and Best New Act. The follow-up album Rear View Mirror was a failure in comparison, although it was a minor chart entry, spending 13 weeks on the Billboard 200 (reaching a peak of #104). In 2010 Billboard named the song the 20th sexiest of all time.
Ilsa the Tigress of Siberia (1977) Theatrical Trailer
Their mutilated bodies are line up on the road to Gulag 14, a sinister reminder of what lies inside, and an absurd tribute to the most despicable and feared Camp Commandant in Russia. It’s Dyanne Thorne or “ILSA”, in her new role as a seductress you would love to hate. This time she is THE TIGRESS OF SIBERIA. Helped by her fanatic Cossack followers, she terrorises Gulag 14 camp prisoners while re-educating political dissenters. Brainwashing and special punitive measures with the help of her Siberian tiger, Sasha, are her indoctrination tools. Nobody can challenge her or survive, until the arrival of Andrei.
Andrei Chikurin is the type of man who won’t submit to Ilsa, which makes her furious. She must put an end to his defiance and kill him. Threats, electroshocks, Andrei resists abusive treatments whatsoever. She tries to seduce Andrei as a last ploy, but without success. She decides he should be put to death. Meanwhile, THE TIGRESS hears about Stalin’s death and that General Zerov is on his way. The camp must be destroyed and prisoners must be killed. She sets the camp on fire. THE TIGRESS and her Cossacks escape. Only Andrei Chikurin survives. A few years later, our heroine is running an exclusive massage parlour, Aphrodite, in Montreal. Using mind-controlled technology, she succeeds in scamming the most influential mafia members.
Andrei Chikurin, the only man who has never surrendered to Ilsa suddenly appears. A special squad sent by the KGB arrives just before THE TIGRESS manages to take revenge on Andrei. Her private property fast becomes a slaughterhouse. THE TIGRESS escapes with Andrei running after her. Finally, when they are alone, it’s Chikurin’s turn in getting even.

I will never let my tumblr fans down. I just found this cool black and white negative of a teenage Joan Jett. I took the photo backstage at a Runaways concert at the famed Whiskey A Go Go back in 1977. Joan photographed so beautifully.

Pop chick Billie's floor-filling version of the old 1953 Jump Jazz number written by Jon Hendricks for Louis Jordan. Backing her are Madeline Bell, Kiki Dee, Doris Troy and the Moody Blues. Would have been a hit but Decca's pressing plant was in the middle of a workers strike.
