This beautiful boy will adorn the cover of De Torens van Schemerwoude part 16, which will be released by Glénat in September. We still have to wait and see whether the translation will also be published that month until we receive those schedules. There will also be a large-format edition in French with a cover showing Knight Aymar. The title is L'Homme à la Hache (The Man with the Ax).
In addition, an integral edition of volumes 11 to 15, which were published under the series name Schemerwoude, will appear at the same time (and again for the time being only announced in French). In each of those complete stories, a descendant of knight Aymar plays the leading role.
The full story album is presented as a "satellite album," one that just plays alongside the first ten-part cycle and has nothing to do with the later parts either.
In that "ultimate part", Aymar ventures one fine day on the borderland of Lord Guibert. Its fields and forests used to belong to Aymar. The knight wants to pass there in order to go discreetly to his own castle. He has barely set foot on his former property when he is surprised by the men of the terrible Ulrik. Aymar is left for dead. Gaspard, an old acquaintance, saves him. As Aymar recovers from his injuries, the same question haunts his mind: How did Ulrik know he was there?

Blacksad 6 in October. First part of diptych
Good news for Blacksad fans. In October (which is already the French release month) part 6 of the detective series with animals as characters will be released. The album is the first part of a diptych of which the sequel is normally expected in 2022. Artist Juanjo Guarnido can now fully concentrate on both albums after signing for years on the thick one-shot Het Goud van de Zwendelaar. Screenwriter Juan Díaz Canales in turn was also busy. He made a comeback for the adventure series Corto Maltese, drawn by his Spanish compatriot Rubèn Pellejero.
The diptych is set in New York again and for part 6 the sets alternate between the New York subway and the highest political and financial echelons of the city. Journalist Weekly gets a female colleague at the editorial office of the newspaper What's News and that does not go unnoticed in the macho male bastion of the newspaper editorial office.
On May 28, publishing house Dargaud will already offer a preview of the album to be released via a specially issued newspaper What's News containing four pages from the upcoming album, extra info and various illustrated articles as if it were a real newspaper. This newspaper is only published in French and costs 3 euros. That same day, Dargaud also reveals the cover of Blacksad part 6. |

Jean Van Hamme wrote a sequel to Jacobs' very first comic De "U" -straal
At the end of this year, another Blake and Mortimer screenplay by Jean Van Hamme will be released, drawn by the Dutch duo Peter van Dongen and Teun Berserik. He wrote that story back in 2017 and had to wait his turn. And after that? Well, Mr. Van Hamme has meanwhile written a sequel to another Edgar P. Jacobs comic: The "U" Ray, the direct predecessor of Blake and Mortimer and Jacobs' first full-fledged comic strip.
The "U" ray appeared in the Belgian comics weekly Bravo during World War II when Jacobs was asked to come up with a new sf series after German censorship banned US comics. As a result, Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon disappeared from Bravo and The "U" Ray took its place. Jacobs then recruited a special, loyal reader to help with his own series. And so a collaboration came about between that reader, Hergé, and Jacobs for the Tintin series.
Van Hamme worked out a completely new story with the same characters from De "U" -ral that can be read as a sequel. In it he gives an explanation for the title, because Jacobs himself neglected to do that in his story. It is not yet known who will sign it and when the album will be released. |

Screenwriter Sylvain Runberg is working on Outlaws, a spin-off of his own SF series Orbital, which will be released by Dupuis in 2022. In French, that is, because Orbital stopped translating at Dupuis after four parts. In 2017, Microbe picked up the series and reissued all albums in softcover and hardcover, while Microbe also translated the rest of the series (now eight volumes).
Serge Pellé is quietly working on subsequent albums by Orbital. Outlaws' drawings have been entrusted to Eric Chabbert, the draftsman of, among others, Black Stone, Shadow Banking and Uchronie [s].
Runberg didn't want to say much about Outlaws, except that it is separate from Orbital but is set in the same universe. Here you will find a preview. |

Master of Puppets
If you remember the history lessons from high school, the three Roman civil wars of the first century BC still ring a bell somewhere. In this third album we mainly get to read the aftermath of that first conflict between Gaius Marius and Lucius Cornelius Sulla. Both parties went to great lengths to gain power and this led to a lot of needless bloodshed, something which is also discussed extensively in this album. Meanwhile, the (fictional) cult around Rome's third son pulls quite a bit of strings behind the scenes as an accomplished Master of Puppets, although they certainly don't have it under the market to stay afloat in the fray.
In itself Laurent Moënard's screenplay is of an acceptable level of refined pulp, but because he also weaves a lot of historical facts into his story, this series stands out a bit. In order to distinguish fake news from Roman reality, it is best to add a Wikipedia page to it every now and then, if it interests you. If you don't, the action story will still be easy to read and bloody.
Damir Zitko is allowed to observe the drawing honors this time. You may still know it from the Bible stripping, the translations of which are still being published by Silvester. The man draws very credible sets and crowd scenes,
Nevertheless, this series remains a must for those who like a well-documented What if? Story. In part 4, the paths of Julius Caesar and the Gallic renegade Vercingetorix will intersect. We are already curious about which twist the screenwriter will give this! Alesia to it! |

Novi Leov Aldebaran ciklus-Neptune:
This fall, Neptune (French title for Neptunus) will start the next cycle in The Worlds of Aldebaran by sf author Leo. It will be a house clos, because it mainly takes place on board a spaceship that is doomed. Tension assured, according to publisher Dargaud, in line with the Alien films. On board: including Kim Keller and Manon Servoz.
While making the previous cycle, Back to Aldebaran, Leo promised not to make any more five or six part cycles. Partly because he learned to draw faster and with more pages per album, he wanted to present shorter cycles from now on. Back to Aldebaran was indeed over after three parts. The continuation in the Neptune cycle can be even shorter, because it will be a diptych. Part 1 is 64 pages thick and part 2 will be published in 2022.
Neptune will be the sixth cycle in The Worlds of Aldebaran after Aldebaran, Betelgeuse, Antares and Back to Aldebaran. In between, the side series Survivors appeared, which also belongs to The Worlds of Aldebaran and in which main character Kim does not play a part. This series did show Manon, who became Kim's security guard in Back to Aldebaran.

This autumn the second album of the Spirou spin-off Supergroom will be released in Dutch by Dupuis. The 88-page album is entitled The Olympic War and is again the work of Yoann and Fabien Vehlmann. For this superhero version with a wink, they put the Spirou and Fantasio series on hold, partly because it was somewhat in the doldrums. Supergroom is more targeting a younger audience that doesn't turn their noses at superhero comics and movies or doesn't care about over 80 years of comic book history associated with the character. The album will be released October 6, two months after the actual Tokyo Olympics ended.
This is the content: "Pearl white beaches, a glorious sun ... no, it is not an idyllic holiday, but the harsh reality of the Worldwide Olympic War (WOW), the battle between the greatest superheroes in the world. But Supergroom is not Descended of his own accord to the paradise spot He's kidnapped and dropped on the island while Spip is held captive!
