AMY WINEHOUSE COMIC BOOK PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE ICONIC SINGER

Bluewater Productions has published a new comic book biography on the life of Amy Winehouse as part of their popular Tribute series.

Tribute: Amy Winehouse , released this week, is available in both print and digital.

The book was written by Michael L. Frizell with art by Jayfri Hashim and features seven collectable and exclusive covers by Hashim and artist Brent Sprecher.

Amy Winehouse, the newest member of the “27 club”, musicians at the height of their career who lost their lives at the age of 27, lived a hard and fast life. Her story, illustrated on her body in the form of tattoos, tells the tell of a talent flaming out long before her time.

"Amy Winehouse was one of those artists whose demons both drove her work and led to her untimely death. Writing about her was difficult. As I researched her life and her work, it became increasingly apparent that I couldn't write about her stardom without addressing her illness and vice versa," says writer Michael L. Frizell.

"I found myself admiring Ms. Winehouse during the course of crafting this book. I don't think she was a hero, nor do I think she should be propped up as a role model. Tragic artists such as Ms. Winehouse are fascinating to us because we see this woman who seems to have it all - fame, fortune, a thriving artistic career - throw it all away chasing her personal demons. Sadly, we hear of many stories like hers. What sets her story apart is that there's this feeling she'd still be on the charts today if she had been able to conquer those demons," Frizell added.

“I fell in love with Amy's soulful, timeless sound immediately upon hearing her voice come over my car radio. I'm honored to be able to contribute, if only in this small way, to the legacy of one of the most talented and, ultimately, tragic singers of our generation,” said cover artist Brent Sprecher.

“The Tribute line of comic books tells the stories of people that have made a significant difference in the world while they were with us," says Bluewater publisher, Darren G. Davis. “It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world.”

Showing him what he's missing? Nina Dobrev dons leather to do her best sexy librarian impression as ex Ian Somerhalder moves on

By CHELSEA WHITE

She may have lost her boyfriend to another vampire, but Nina Dobrev is not letting that get her down.

The 25-year-old was far too busy looking good to be worried about her ex Ian Somerhalder dating Nikki Reed.

Stepping out at Comic-Con in San Diego, California, on Friday night, the Vampire Diaries star ensured all eyes were on her.

(Nina Dobrev wore a sexy ensemble to Comic-Con in San Diego, California, on Friday)

Embracing the nerdy past of the convention, Nina did her best impression of a sexy librarian at the 20th Century Fox panel.

Promoting her new film Let's be Cops, the brunette donned a striking purple pleated leather skirt with a sheer white tuxedo shirt tucking into the high-waisted statement piece.

The star avoided any wardrobe malfunctions in the see through shirt thanks to a nude top underneath.

DC Comics' - Cuba: My Revolution

(Inverna Lockpez / Dean Haspiel)

Cover:

I've long extolled the virtues of DC Comics and their Vertigo line of original graphic novels, and they've always been challenging the medium to do bigger and better things. I was asked if I would review and present a preview to Huffington Post readers of their latest important graphic novel that would be of interest to an intelligent and politically savvy audience. It's called Cuba: My Revolution and was written by Cuban expatriate and artist Inverna Lockpez and drawn by Dean Haspiel.

...

It tells a very different sort of story about Cuba during the revolution and it drips with seemingly first hand accounts.

...

This book beautifully tells the tale of a Cuba I'd never really read about. The Cuba I think of when it comes to art and literature is the Hemingway's Cuba. To a lesser extent, even Graham Greene's Cuba. I've not read much fiction during the turmoil that seemed to hit so hard into reality and it was a bit of a wake-up call. I've always been very sympathetic to Fidel and Cuba, but this has me thinking a little bit differently and that's what great art is all about.

...

It's very beautifully written and rendered and there are scenes of alternating beauty and brutality that make it feel almost like you're there. There was a bit of choppiness in some of the sequential storytelling, but it was laid out in such a classic 50s/60s art sort of fashion, it's impossible to argue with.

...

The coloring is stark, practically black, white, and red, but manages to intone all the shades of grey of the conflict.

...

Aguila Solitaria

Comic Mexico

Retrospace says:

Aguila Solitaria was a Mexican superhero that flies using artificial wings, is a marksman akin to Green Arrow, and knows ‘the secrets of the eagles’. (As a side note, he’s also a big time stud). And of course, his parents were killed by filthy gringos.

These villains certainly are interesting: stereotypical Indians - but with gorilla heads. I can’t decide if they’re cool or unbelievably lame. And what’s with the “Guba!” I can’t take them seriously as bad guys if they’re going to spouting such things. I’ve seen GUBA as an acronym for “good, ugly, bad and awesome” and according to Wikipedia, it’s also a prehistoric Hungarian coat.

It’s interesting to note that in Spanish language comics, cowboys are quite often murdering rapists, whilst the Indians are the good ones. A complete reversal from their American counterparts. Don’t expect to find Roy Rogers, Gene Autrry or the Lone Ranger in these comics!“
